Meet Cindy

Hello, and thanks for stopping by . . .

I’m Cindy, a freelance writer in southwest Missouri, where I write for a local paper and several faith-based publications. I did a little writing over the years, but began freelancing for real when I needed to spend more time with my dad, a WWII veteran, after he suffered a fall in 2018. He passed away in 2021, and I continue to be inspired by his example and faithfulness, which gives the basis for many of my articles and posts. I’ve learned that grief is a journey and has many layers. Writing helps me process the memories and realize the impact of childhood experiences, and I’m thankful that deciding to leave full-time work has led to freelance opportunities I really enjoy.

Before leaving full-time work, I was in U.S. Missions at the Assemblies of God national offices. I met people ministering among the poor, the immigrant and refugee community, orphans and widows, and other marginalized groups. Whatever the brand on our church door, or whether we even go to church, there is a compassion within us that reflects the heart of God. I try to reflect that compassion in my writing. I’ve done feature stories about several ministries, which can be found at www.news.ag.org.

I don’t want to be just another clamoring voice, but to write on a topic when I have something helpful to say. Have we overlooked a solution? Do I know someone whose ministry could help? What would my dad have said? What would Jesus say or do?

Sorting my parents’ stuff has yielded a treasure trove of common sense and inspiration, including their notes in over a dozen worn Bibles, which I incorporate into my devotional writing and hope to compile in a book honoring “The Greatest Generation.” In these turbulent and divisive times, I hope you’ll join me on the journey of rediscovering their common sense, faithfulness, and compassion for others.

I’ve noticed that my simple stories of everyday life with a WWII Marine veteran parent somehow resonate with readers. So do my “reflections” on Scripture, featured weekly in the Branson Globe, a free newspaper serving Taney and Stone counties in Missouri with a print edition and also online at www.bransonglobe.com. These devotionals don’t take a theology degree to write or to understand; they’re simple and relatable. I’m available to speak to your church group, ladies’ conference, etc.; use the “contact” option to request more information.
